An Esthetician's Daily Skincare Regimen

Hey, Y’all! I didn’t really have a skincare regimen before I started esthetics school. Now that I know better, I’m doing better! Here’s how I take care of my skin! Depending on your skin type these steps may vary! (I have combo/dry skin)

  1. Pre-Cleanse

    • I currently use Dermalogica’s PreCleanse. Washing with this oil based cleanser helps to remove makeup and loosen debris and sebum on the skin.

  2. Cleanse

    • I am currently using Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleanser. This cleanser is for sensitive skin but also creamy. Those of us with dry skin want to avoid cleansers that foam. Foaming cleansers strip the skin causing our bodies to produce more oil.

  3. Tone

    • Since I have dry skin I am using a freshener. I am using a DIY green tea mixture. (Be on the lookout for that post!) Witch Hazel is a great alternative for oily skin.

  4. Moisturize

    • Finding the right moisturizer is super important. Both dry and oily skin needs moisture. I use Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance. It is packed with antioxidants, helps smooth dryness lines, and prevents moisture loss.

  5. SPF

    • My main goal is to get rid of hyperpigmentation. (For tips check out my Hyperpigmentation 101 post) SPF helps to lighten those spot by blocking the UV Rays that induce the overproduction of melanin.

I follow the same steps above but I apply my serums before applying my moisturizer. My serums include Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Under Eye Cream and Urban Skin Rx Even Tone Super Glow Serum. Since I’m heading to bed I’ll pass on the SPF.

I also exfoliate twice a week. I also use Sunday’s like my self-care days in which I incorporate a moisturizing mask. Need help determining your skin type or developing a routine? Book an appointment with your local esthetician! They’re way cheaper than a dermatologist!
